*** Why doesn´t DroidSheep capture anything on my phone?
DroidSheep will not run on all phones. Some phones/drivers/networkcards/firmwares do not foward all traffic to the Linux-Kernel and DroidSheep will not see the Traffic. These phones will not be able to run it. Nevertheless, I´ll add some debug functionality in order to find out if it doesn´t run on the phone or if it´s an app problem. Also there will be some improvement for the system process handling to avoid restarting the phone or the app in case it hangs up.
***DroidSheep says I´m not rooted - but I am
DroidSheep uses some kind of check for root access. If it thinks you´re not rooted, it shows some notification. So if you´re rooted, you can just ignore that message, because it does the same then…
*** DroidSheep crashed. What shall I do?
Report it to Google!! As I can see all errors that happened when the app crashed on the google market, this is the best thing you can do in order to help me improving the software!
*** Why does it require GMAIL permission?
Gmail permission is necessary for one special functionality of DroidSheep:
You can simply export the plain cookie data via email. In the forum there is a nice tutorial explaining how to use the cookies on your desktop.
If you’re still worried, have a look at the source code on code.google.com/droidsheep
Nevertheless, one additional info: Be aware of su privileges! If you have security concerns, you should know that any application having root access can do ANYTHING on your phone! Even without askong for permissions! It can act as a keylogger, a trojan horse, dump your data and send it whereever and so on. Granting su will give the app all available permissions… So be careful which apps you use!
*** DroidSheep makes my network slow / crash
On some networks ARP-Spoofing can cause problems. This is not mainly a problem of DroidSheep but of the network itself. DroidSheep makes the router forwarding all traffic to the device. If the device is slow (or there is high network load) this might slow down the whole network. There are also clients, that might need a bit time to get updated to send their data to DroidSheep - this might cause the network get stuck for some seconds. But in the very most cases, it should work without any issues in the network.
*** Can usage of DroidSheep be detected?
If you use ARP-Spoofing: Yes, it can! If you do not use ARP-Spoofing it will not be possible to detect if DroidSheep is running. But: If you disable ARP-Spoofing DroidSheep will not work as efficient, because it just listenes to network devices in range. Disabling ARP-Spoof you won´t be able to capture sessions from encrypted networks (WPA/WPA2) and clients with wired connections to the router.
